Paper parameters used in EXTECH printers - STORAGE
Storing paper in a dark place (hermetically sealed in dark plastic) at a temperature below 25 C and humidity between 45% and 65% will ensure the paper’s quality is retained for a period of three years following the date of production.
- PRINT PERFORMANCE
If the print has been performed by equipment meeting Appleton’s quality standards and the conditions for print storage are optimal – humidity between 45% and 65%, temperature below 25 C – the company guarantees a minimum of seven years’ readability.
- CONTRACT RETENTION
Owing to the technology used in the production of OPTIMA paper, the chemical substance in which the paper’s surface is soaked is sensitive to ultraviolet rays. Leaving the print under the influence of sunlight speeds up the process of contrast loss, reducing the visibility difference between the printed text and paper. Contrast depends on: the conditions of printing; the temperature of the print as set by the programmer at the moment of printing; the speed of printing, meaning the time the paper is heated at each point of the print by the printer head; the sensitivity of the chemical substance used (in the case of Optima paper this is a constant parameter); the level of UV rays to which the printed document is exposed (care is to be taken when storing prints in a place where equipment generates UV rays in addition to those of the sun).
- SENSITIVITY TO DIRECT CONTACT
The chemical substance is sensitive to long-term direct contact with materials such as: vinyl, plastic, self-adhesive materials, damp materials, carbon paper. To avoid such problems, each type of paper, including Optima, can be produced with a special top coating isolating is from contact with environmental conditions. This type of coating does not, however, protect against the negative effects of UV rays. To maintain the quality of Appleton products, avoid contact with the following materials. - Solvents
- Cleaning substances
- Ether
- Petroleum distillates
- Carbon
- Oils
- Alcohols
- Fats
- Ammonia
- Plastics
- Water
